So, I was wondering lately if it is worth to use steroids? How much would they help me for example to achieve better body? I know many men that are using them and they have tremendous effects. I know pretty much some stuff about steroids and I know that it may not always be wise to use them and that you have to get some knowledge first to use them correctly, but I wonder what effects would they have for women?

Men get really big and lean when using steroids, but I don't know a single girl that has ever used them so I thought that it will be a good idea to ask here if somebody used them or have some more insight? I work out for 3 years already and I'm pretty much in the same spot since last year. I'm on a good, healthy diet and I have tried gaining weight and then losing it to help my muscles grow, but my body doesn't really seem to change. I don't want to look like a man, but I don't like the idea of not seeing any progress either.

I just want to move forward and do something more with my body, but I really feel like I'm out of options here, so I would love to hear some ideas!

No! Don't do steroids. I've read quite a lot about them and I would advise against them even if you were a man, but even more so that you are a women you shouldn't take them. They can lead to voice changes, clitoris enlargement and other things - I just think it's stupid and I consider every steroids user a cheater.

Oh, I knew it will finally come to that. Firstly, steroids aren't bad or good - it's up to you how you use them. Secondly, I can't think of a reason why would you even consider taking steroids if you don't want to take part in Bikini Fitness and other similar events. hammlie has stated here, that using steroids is cheating. I don't see it as cheating - everyone is free to try them and can do them at their own risk, also every pro bodybuilder is ON and we know it. It is more rare among women, but all those women that are competing with each other are ON as well, so unless you won't to pursue similar goals, you shouldn't take them. You have thousands of different ways to improve your looks, strength, agility, stamina - whatever you ask for - there is no point in going for steroids even if you didn't make any progress for a year.

As for voice changes, clitoris enlargement, additional body hair - true those are the downsides of steroids, but you would have to be using them a lot for a longer period of time.

Don't do any steroids! Just like Katyaa said, leave it for the pros and if you just want to improve there is a lot of threads on how to constantly progress.

Take into account also that women will never be as big and ripped as men naturally. We even have more body fat to begin with - women with 20% BF is considered to be in a nice shape, while men with 20% BF are overweight - we are just built differently, leave steroids for men or bodybuilders. You will be much more feminine and attractive for men if you just keep working out and progress slowly, step by step.

That's an interesting discussion. I don't consider steroids evil and just as Katyaa said, they aren't either good or bad. This is a tool that can help or not - it's up to you how you use them, although just like everyone before me said - there is no point in using them for women! I can understand men on steroids that just want to be bigger, leaner and more attractive - but for women? Unless you really want to resemble men more then there is no point in taking them, because women may get their dream body without any use of steroids in opposition to men.

Just keep working out and you will see improvement, you can make other thread with your current routine, diet and we'll help you move forward - thing is here though that for women any progress from certain point will come much slower than for men because we are not genetically made to be as strong and big as them, our muscles simply don't grow in the same way, but hey, you wouldn't want that, right?

Steroids are bad! Be it for men or women and I agree with hammlie here - it is cheating to use them. I know bunch of guys who got themselves in a good shape without them and they must be more healthy than steroid users. I saw some guys after steroids in my gym and their body was just so unnatural that it was repelling for me.

Just work out Devone!! After I have lost additional weight to the point that I was basically quite skinny I reached my goal but I still continued to work out because I love it. So don't worry about progressing. I don't see much progress myself lately, but I know I'm moving forward, especially my thighs and booty!! I didn't notice much improvement in my arms or chest of course, although my breasts are looking definitely better than before! You just have to realize, that you won't grow as much as men do. For me it's enough that I remain in the shape that I'm in now by consistently working out and I still keep seeing some positive changes in my body, so heads up!

Well, I kind of disagree with most of you here.

Just like Katyaa and MomLovesIron said, steroids are a tool. You are free to use this tool if you want and even as it's mostly associated with men, women can use steroids as well. They just have to use lower doses and don't run exact cycles copied men. It requires a little bit knowledge or somebody to guide you, but you can improve and it doesn't exactly mean that you will grow a moustache, get bigger arm than your boyfriend and other myths that some people are saying.

Like someone here in this discussion said already, woman's body won't grow as much as man's body, but they can still turn to be really helpful, it greatly depends on your goal. I'm not pro-steroids use, but I'm not against it either. I haven't been on a cycle myself, because I never needed it but I know some women that were attending Bikini Fitness events that did and they did quite a lot of them. Now you should ask yourself, do they really look not feminine? Are they too big?

They are not and they have used plenty of them. So if you feel like using them, you can go for it, although it will require a different approach than with men.

I also don't see anything wrong with using steroids even though I don't know any woman that has actually used them. I know it is popular in all those competitions and just like you I was considering getting ON as well. I think it may be fun experience and life is all about trying new different things. I can get a better body this way and I can feel stronger and better from what I've read. Of course just like cherryjuice said a lot depends on dosage and knowledge about them, but I don't rule this possibility in the future.

Okay, Strawberry I can understand your motives - but is it really worth to risk your health for a sake of slightly better body? Because as far as I'm concerned you won't improve your looks that much and not many of us here don't really care about strength that much...

Well, I care about strength a bit, but I would never commit to using steroids just for the sake of adding additional pounds on my barbell. I already have a goal - and it is enjoying working out and staying in shape - I don't need steroids for this. Of course I love new challenges, but I feel like it wouldn't be satisfying if I broke my old records just because of using illegal substances...

I know cherryjuice is pretty knowledgeable and I trust her, but even if I wanted to take part in Bikini Fitness I would never touch steroids - I would do my best to do it naturally even if I didn't have a chance. I agree with Fit_Bet that it wouldn't be satisfying.
I would probably end up feeling like I stole all this power and shape that I'm in.

I don't care if every women on the scene is using them - I still consider it cheating because after all you are injecting something that is not natural...

Well, I'm of the same opinion like cherryjuice. You can do better with steroids, but do you really need it? And also @greenprincess - steroids are mostly natural substances, that are synthesized in our bodies - just in much lower amount. Taking them like most users basically means increasing your hormones level by 5 to 15 times. It's all natural, but I understand your point.

I never used them either, but I'm happy with what I have and I don't have the aspirations to have the best body in the world and you can achieve basically everything you need without any use of steroids. We can compare it to driving newest Mercedes and newest Lamborghini. You can get all the pleasure you need from driving brand-new Mercedes, so do you really need to spend 7 times more money on newest Lamborghini?

The same thing is with steroids - do you really need to run full tests, spend money, risk your health - though if you know what you are doing, there is not much risk involved, just to get a better body, which won't really be noticed unless you get on the scene. It makes much bigger difference for men than for women!

Okay, now I feel stupid a bit :P I feel like I have stirred a storm here. I know that I have still a lot to do naturally and I don't have to use steroids. It just came to me that maybe I should try it because I would really love to progress a little bit more, but didn't know what else should I do. I don't want to go out on the scene, so I will pass on any use of steroids.

Thanks a lot for explaining it all to me. I don't consider steroids really bad or good, but I don't think I have enough knowledge and experience to make such statements anyway.

I know that women can't grow as much as men no matter how much steroids they will take, but I won't rule them out completely, so maybe in the future I will think about it again, but as for now I will focus on a good diet and work out. Thanks again for all those responses, I appreciate it.
