Hi everyone. it was a long time that I struggled to get my weight down. In college, I played basketball and volleyball for the team. Systematical training, competitions, additional physical activities and a healthy lifestyle kept me fit. I dreamt of becoming a professional sportsman one day, however, my parents insisted that I look at life more seriously and concentrate on a career that guarantees a steady income.

My dream of a sports icon lasted a month after which I gave up and pursued to focus on studies. With the absence of sports in my life and hereditary genes of being bulky, fat became my best friend and we got along like a house on fire. The graph of my weight vs time went sky rocketing and pounds seem to pile up like there was no tomorrow.

In no time I was the talk of my college for my weight. My friends would make fun of me and boys were no longer attracted towards me. I had the tag of being "popular" in college; that tag remains; just that I was now popular for other reasons, reasons that I did not want to associate myself with. I did not want to be popular for my FAT.

I struggled with this for almost a year after which, I decided to put an end to the misery I was going through. I was determined to do something about my weight. I enrolled my name for the basketball team again.

But just enlisting your name and actually playing for the team are two very different things. With my current weight, I found it difficult to cope up with the other fit players and I could see myself not making it into the final squad.

Weight was my issue and I had to tackle it somehow. I started jogging in the mornings for 45 minutes before practice followed by ab exercises after practice. I completely changed my meal plan and discarded any kind of fatty food. My meals compromised solely of salads and high protein meat. I made it a point to sleep early to get adequate rest before my jog in the morning.

I followed this routine diligently for a month and the final result gave credit to my efforts. I lost 15 pounds in that month and made it to the playing squad of the basketball team. I was delighted to achieve my goal and it felt great to get back that lost attention.

I am sharing this with you all as there is always a time in our lives when it reaches an all-time low and we are looked down upon by others. However accepting this change means accepting defeat. Never give up and push yourself harder to achieve what you think is the inevitable. You will see yourself rise above the rest.

Always remember, "Life is like a tennis ball. The harder it falls, the higher it will bounce"

Thank you.

You are absolutely right Tereza, life is indeed like a tennis ball. The harder it falls, the higher it will bounce. I too have been a victim of overweight trauma but like you, I chose to look at the brighter side and sprung my way out of the mess. I would request you to go through my post titled "Get, Set and Lose" which will give you a deeper insight of my story.

Enough of me trying to steal your thunder. Your achievements deserve accolades and that you shall get. Keep it going girl, you truly are an inspiration to many around you.
